304 stainless steel wire mesh is woven from AISI 304 (UNS S30400) stainless steel wire, containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This composition provides excellent corrosion resistance in atmospheric environments, fresh water, and mild chemical exposures.

Available in three weaving patterns:
Plain Weave — Each warp wire passes alternately over and under each weft wire. Most common and economical pattern.
Twill Weave — Each warp wire passes over two and under two weft wires. Allows heavier wire with finer mesh.
Dutch Weave — Warp wires are heavier, weft wires are finer. Creates very small openings for fine filtration.

304 SS wire mesh can operate continuously at temperatures up to 870°C (1600°F) in intermittent service and 925°C (1700°F) in continuous service. For cryogenic applications, it remains tough down to -196°C.
304 SS has moderate corrosion resistance in marine environments but is not recommended for continuous saltwater exposure. For marine applications, 316 SS with molybdenum is strongly recommended.
